Balgo
2007 - The community of Balgo (Wirrimanu) is the
traditional country belonging to Kukatja, Ngarti and Walmajarri
people and is on the edge of the Great Sandy and Tanami Deserts.
It is an important ceremonial site on the track of the
Kingfisher Ancestor. Balgo painters are internationally
known for their individualistic and dynamic style with its
varied dotting techniques, free-flowing shapes and bright
colours. Gallery Gondwana in collaboration with community
art centre Warlayirti Artists, is proud to present our biannual
exhibition of these fabulous energetic works that we hope you
will enjoy.
TJARLIRLI
2007 - "Tjarlirli art" was named after one of the three
sacred rock holes near Tjukurla that has special significance to
the women of that region. Tjarlirli paintings are mostly
traditional in that they tell the stories of important ancestral
sites and events. Rock holes, sand hills and lakes feature
prominently in their paintings. The Tjukurla community was
formed in 1980 and Tjarlirli Art has been operating out of
Tjukurla since 2006. Gallery Gondwana is proud to feature
the art of Tjarlirli alongside it's biannual Balgo show. |
