Gallery Gondwana, representing contemporary aboriginal art since 1990

divas of the desert

In its 8th year running, Divas of the Desert is recognized as one of the leading all female indigenous art exhibitions in Australia.  Showcasing iconic as well as contemporary indigenous art, Divas represents a who's who of female artists as well as a launching point for emerging artists.  In previous years Divas has highlighted the careers of artists such as Dorothy Napangardi, Mitjili Napanangka Gibson, Judy Napangardi Watson and Elizabeth Nyumi.

We are excited to bring back some of your old favourites and introduce you to some of the new talent coming from the central and western deserts. Gallery Gondwana has  recently visited a number of community art centres hand picking  the paintings for Divas 2008. We are also excited to show you the new work  by Gallery Gondwana's own Divas (Dorothy Napangardi, Mitjili Napanankga Gibson, and Julie Nangala Robinson) working at the Gallery's studio in Alice Springs. Divas 2008 is one of the most promising collections Gallery Gondwana has put together.
