Mitjili Napanangka Gibson

Mitjili was born at Winparrku, near Papunya, west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory circa 1940.  Her country is called Wilkinkarra which is her father's country near lake Mackay in the Gibson desert.  She is from the Pintupi language group and also speaks the Warlpiri language.

Mitjili is a traditional woman who loves to go hunting for bush tucker, especially for goannas which are plentiful at Mina Mina.

Mitjili has lived at Nyrripi for many years and it is there that she began painting. Mitjili paints stories relating to her country, sacred sites and stories of law and culture.
