Mitjili Napanangka Gibson
Mitjili was born at Winparrku, near Papunya, west of Alice Springs
in the Northern Territory circa 1940. Her country is
called Wilkinkarra which is her father's country near lake Mackay in
the Gibson desert. She is from the Pintupi language group and
also speaks the Warlpiri language.
Mitjili is a
traditional woman who loves to go hunting for bush tucker,
especially for goannas which are plentiful at Mina Mina.
Mitjili has lived
at Nyrripi for many years and it is there that she began painting.
Mitjili paints stories relating to her country, sacred sites and
stories of law and culture. | |
