Kurarra and Tarku Rosie Tarco.
For over ten
years Sonia Kurarra, a Walmajarri artist, has been painting the
rich geography of Fitzroy Crossing, a remote community in WA.
Her unique style of painting combines her interpretation of
country and dreaming, creating a story of abstracted landscape.
There is an element of the naive when viewing her work, often a
flat perspective which challenges one to find the correct
orientation of the painting and ultimately one realizes there is
no right way to view her work. As viewers we are constantly
moving about her pictures. The trees, rivers, fish and colours
all work together to create a magical landscape that Sonia has
experienced first hand. |
