This painting is part of a series that were shown at the 2008 Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art titled - My Father's Country ...Beyond Mina Mina.
Inspired by knowledge given to Dorothy by her father, Paddy Japanangka Lewis and his sister Mitjili Napanangka Gibson these paintings are about her actual conception site — a small claypan which is associated with the Bilby Dreaming
to the south west of the two large claypans of Mina Mina — (Napangardi’s custodial country).
Prior to her minimalist black and white works, Dorothy was recognised as a great colourist. Here in this series of works, she chose to return to vibrant colours with classic roundels and concentric circles with intercepting lines to reference her beginnings and to associate with her father and auntie, both of whom are artists in their own right.
As an aerial perspective of country, this painting can be hung either on the landscape or vertical format.
This work is featured on page 44 in the monograph: Honouring and Remembering the Art and Life of Dorothy Napangardi, 1987-2013
