This was one of the first of several series of paintings — primarily as a diptych or triptych.
Both Dorothy and Walala travelled to Canberra for an exhibition and loved seeing banners of paintings promoting their work and both artists proceeded to paint in panels upon their return, experimenting with shapes and forms.
The subject matter is her recurring theme of the important women's site of Mina MIna , where she lived a nomadic life until she was a young teenager. She had travelled back to perform rituals with her aunties (father's sisters) in 1998. This also marked an enormous transition in her work.
