Product Details

This early transitional oeuvre from Dorothy Napangard's ' b ush plum dreaming ' is based on the more generic Napangardi kinship dreaming story rather than that of her latter work which features ' her borning place ', west of Mina Mina, her traditional country where she lived as a young girl until her early teens.

Dorothy's early work were often colourful floral depictions of bush food, most often of bush plum dreaming and bush banana dreaming. She was renowned for her passion about bush food and was a skilled hunter, often taking the opportunity to go out to country with family and friends hunting for bush tucker.

Her father, Paddy Japanangka Lewis was a strong ceremonial man who instilled in Dorothy a love and belief in how her country was sung into existence by her ancestors and her relationship to it. Her mother, Jeannie Lewis was a Warlpiri women and her sisters were very vibrant, energetic keepers of the law.

This work is featured on page 48 in the monograph: Honouring and Remembering the Art and Life of Dorothy Napangardi, 1987-2013
