Daisy Japulija

Daisy Japulja: Biography

Born 1948, Noonkanbah, Western Australia.

Daisy Japulja is an artist who beautifully captures the essence of both Martuwarra (river country) and her parents' Jilji (sand hill) country in her paintings. Through her work, Daisy relives and retells the stories of her mothers' and fathers' lands as well as her own river country. Using lively colours and a thick brush, she confidently covers the canvas, creating art that radiates with simplicity and boldness.

Her desert images are distinguished by a vibrant color palette and portray important Jila (waterholes) and Jumu (soak waters) from the Great Sandy Desert. Closer to home, Daisy's cheeky sense of humour emerges through her delightful depictions of river country and the various animals that inhabit it.

Daisy's vibrant and energetic body of work reflects her profound love for her country, making each piece a testament to her cultural heritage and artistic skill.
