Heather Walker

Heather Walker, born in 1942 in Rockhampton, Queensland, is a talented artist from the Koinjmal language group. Her artistic practice spans linocuts, ceramics, and textiles, often drawing inspiration from Cape York rock art. Heather studied at the North Queensland Art Centre for Aborigines and Islanders, and much of her work features depictions of human figures, spirits, plants, and animals. She is also engaged in cataloging extinct animals and exploring changes in plants, reflecting both temporal and spiritual human concerns over centuries. Her art ranges beyond traditional themes, embracing diverse mediums and imagery. In 1988, Heather exhibited at the Queensland Museum in Brisbane, and her work is now held in prestigious national collections, including the National Gallery of Australia (NGA), National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), and the National Library of Australia. Heather Walker's art is a rich blend of cultural heritage and modern exploration, making her a significant figure in contemporary Indigenous art.
