Paddy Bird Petyarre

Also known as Paddy Bird Jangala, Paddy Bird Petyarre was born in 1952 at Alcoota, Utopia, in the Eastern Desert, northeast of Alice Springs. He belongs to the Anmatyerre/Alyawarr language group and hails from a strong artistic family that encouraged him to paint his inherited Dreaming stories, including the Mulga Seed. His mother is the acclaimed artist Ada Bird Petyarre, and his uncle is Lindsay Bird Mpetyane.

One of Paddy Bird Petyarre's key themes is "Men's Dreaming Black Seed." These paintings capture the essence of Aboriginal spirituality and culture. This artwork delves into the sacred Dreaming stories associated with black seeds, a vital element in men's ceremonies and traditional practices. The Dreaming, or Tjukurrpa, represents the time of creation and ancestral beings, deeply revered in Aboriginal culture.

He is married to Eileen Bird and continues to contribute significantly to the artistic legacy of his family and culture.
