Reanne Nampijinpa Brown

Brown paints Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming) at the significant Water Dreaming country called Mikanji, west of Yuendumu, and Pamapardu Jukurrpa (Flying Ant Dreaming), which she has inherited from her father's and grandfather’s side. These Dreamings relate directly to her land, its features, and the plants and animals that inhabit it. Reanne works for the Warlukurlangu Artists art centre in Yuendumu.

Reanne was born in 1989 in Alice Springs Hospital, the closest hospital to Yuendumu, a remote Aboriginal community 290 km northwest of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia. She has lived in Yuendumu all her life and attended the local school. Reanne is married and has one little boy, Jacob.

She began painting for the Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation, an Aboriginal-owned and governed art centre in Yuendumu, in 2002, when she was thirteen. Warlukurlangu Artists provides an outlet for Warlpiri artists to paint their cultural heritage and earn income from their work. Reanne's work focuses on Ngapa Jukurrpa (Water Dreaming) and Pamapardu Jukurrpa (Flying Ant Dreaming), Dreamings she inherited from her father and grandfather. These Dreamings are intricately connected to her land, its features, and the flora and fauna within it.

Reanne ventured into printmaking in 2006, producing her first etching. As a young artist, she enjoys painting for the art centre and has a promising career ahead.
