Rosie Ngwarraye Ross
Rosie Ngwarraye Ross (1951-2023) was born near Amaroo Station, NT, and belonged to the Ngwarraye skin group. Her journey into painting began when she saw her daughter, Margaret Ross, painting and decided to try it herself. Despite being new to the art form, she developed a unique style using brushes and sticks, favoring the latter for their distinctive effects.
Rosie's artwork is known for its bold, expressive style, often omitting the sky and combining both aerial and frontal views. She depicted bush medicine and wildflowers from around her country. Her notable exhibitions include:
- Fragrant Lands: Exhibition of Australian and Chinese Indigenous Art at Tandanya National Aboriginal Cultural Institute, touring to Shanghai, China (2014)
- Flinders Lane Gallery, Melbourne (2014)
- Booker-Lowe Gallery, Texas, USA (2015)
