Silvery leaves intermingle with soft pinks in "Bush Leaf Medicine," another representation by artist Margaret Scobie that symbolizes various growth stagesof the leaves. Margaret Scobie Petyarre, born in 1948 at Woola Downs in the Northern Territory, hails from the Anmatyerre community north of Alice Springs. She belongs to one of the most renowned Aboriginal artistic families, including notable artists like Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Gloria Petyarre, Kathleen Petyarre, Anna Petyarre, and Ada Bird Petyarre. Over the years, Margaret has developed her unique style, focusing on her family's Dreaming stories, particularly the "Bush Medicine Leaves."

These bush medicine leaves come from a native shrub that grows abundantly in the desert regions of Utopia, northeast of Alice Springs. The leaves change color throughout their life cycle, exhibiting different medicinal properties. Bush medicine refers to the ancient and traditional Aboriginal use of native Australian botanicals for physical and spiritual healing, a practice that has been in existence for thousands of years.

Margaret's vibrant paintings not only highlight the medicinal importance of these leaves but also serve as a tribute to her cultural heritage. Through her artwork, she preserves and celebrates the ancient traditions of her people, bringing to life the rich history and practices of Aboriginal Australia. Her work ensures that these traditions continue to be recognized and valued in contemporary times.
