Kurlangu Jukurrpa limited edition print by Betsy Napangardi Lewis
This original, hand-printed limited screenprint, ideal as a cultural gift, is by Betsy Napangardi Lewis, a senior Warlpiri woman. Napangardi was born about 1940 at Kunajarrayi, west of Yuendumu, in the Tanami Desert, went to school at Yuendumu and has lived at the community ever since.
Betsy started painting in 1999 at Warlukurlangu Arts, and has become a regular participant in the Art Centre's exhibition. Her paintings represent Dreaming stories belonging to her Napangardi skin group and include Ngalyipi (Snake wine), Karnta (Women's Dreaming), Jintiparnta (Edible Fungus), Mina Mina (Dreaming Site), and Kurrkara (Dogwood).
She has exhibited widely in most Australian states and overseas. Her recent imagery concerns variation on women's digging sticks. She painted the acetate cells for this image during a printmaking workshop conducted by staff from Basil Hall Editions in March 2006.
