Minyma Tingari 2000 by Kai Kai Nampitjinpa, 91x91cm 6246KK

This painting by Kai Kai Nampitjijnpa depicts designs associated with the rockhole site of Ngaminya (alt. Ngaripungkunya), just to the south-west of the Kiwirrkura Community in Western Australia. The rockholes at this site are represented by the roundels and the adjoining lines represent the sandhills in the area. The grid like designs at the top and bottom represent the nearby rocky outcrops.

A group of women camped at this site, before travelling east, passing through Kiwirrkura and then north-east to Tarkul and Lake Mackay. Along the way they collected the edible berries known as kampurarrpa or desert raisin. These berries can be eaten straight from the bush but are sometimes ground into a paste and cooked in the coals to make a type of damper.
