"My work is based on mythology, legend and religion set against the everyday events that cloud the mind today. I want to question my life in this world and also the next world, I feel my work is the expression of my voyage of discovery. I would like to share this voyage with you.

Coming from a place so small to the big city - where everything is laid out on a silver platter - a rich dinner party, I focus on remaining conscious, and making good choices.

The stamps of consciousness are moments remembered on this journey - stamped on the brain the emotions".

Rusiate, one of the most exciting and provocative artists to exhibit at Gallery Gondwana, comes from a long lineage of potters, carvers, tapa cloth and fibre artists. Named Contemporary Fijian Artist of the Year in 1999, Rusiate’s work is a sensuous mix of past and present, myth and reality. He has had five solo exhibitions and participated in many group exhibitions. To date much of his work has explored his personal experiences and his universal awareness of social issues. He handles these subjects with intelligence and sensitivity.
