The Old Wanja's by Judith Coppin 30x30cm
This is the artist's country in Roebourne, Western Australia. In the centre of the painting is a large waterhole where a spirit dog lives nearby. The arc shapes in each corner depict the body paint worn for ceremonies in honour of this country.
Judith’s artworks are intricately constructed, bold and deeply cultural, evolving from her passionate love of her Ngurra (country) and creation stories from Ngurra Nyujunggamu (when the world was soft). Born in 1957, Judith Coppin is an Yindjibarndi Elder and Cultural Custodian , highly respected artist and community worker. Since 2010, she has extended her art practices from her very beautiful yarranga marni (carved boards) to creating beautiful acrylic paintings on canvas. Her artworks are highly valued and selected for major Perth-based exhibitions and has won the paintings by Pilbara indigenous artist category in the Rio Tinto Colours of our Country exhibition.
Canvas stretched on wooden frame ready to hang, packed with MDF board for protection.
