Water Dreaming by Julie Nangala Robertson 30x30cm 9079JR
Pirlinyanu, located in the Tanami Desert west of Yuendumu and near the WA border, is her father's country. It is renowned for its deep rock holes that preserve life-giving water, even during dry periods. The painting reflects the passing of traditional knowledge, which teaches the location and significance of these water sources.
Julie Nangala Robertson, the eldest daughter of Dorothy Napangardi Robinson, won the 2023 Telstra Aboriginal Art Award in the Best Painting Category. Her work is celebrated for its extraordinary optical brilliance, achieved by varying dot sizes and creating intricate shapes through repeated dotting.
Recently, Julie changed the spelling of her surname to Robertson, aligning with her relatives in Yuendumu. She believes her father, Windy, misspelled it. Windy had two wives, Rene and Dorothy Robinson, making this adjustment a tribute to her family's heritage and accuracy. Julie's artwork and personal journey highlight her commitment to preserving and honoring her cultural legacy.
Painting will be freighted stretched canvas on frame with MDF board for protection
