“Wilkinkarra” Screenprint by Mitjili Napanangka Gibson
This is one of two beautiful limited edition screen prints by world renowned artist Mitjili Napanangka Gibson. This one has a vibrant red background whereas the other floats on a white background.
Both are strong powerful works.“ Wilkinkarra ” is the Pintupi name for Lake Mackay. This area is Mitjili’s traditional country and this is the region where she lived pre-contact. Mitjili’s family would camp on the Walatu (islands of the lake) and then go into the surrounding bush to hunt. One of their main camps was called “Parrailpit”, a large wetland area with many eucalyptus trees.
Along with every purchase we are offering a free copy of the book titled: Honouring And Remembering The Art And Life Of Dorothy Napangardi as this etching is in it. Mitjili is Dorothy's auntie - her father's sister which is a very important relationship.
